First convocation of Jagannath University (JNU) on 11-01-2020 Saturday

The 1st convocation of the Jagannath University (JnU) are held 11-01-2020 Saturday. President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, will preside over the event at Dhupkhola ground within the capital.

Professor Emeritus Dr Arun Kumar Basak of Rajshahi University will attend the programme because the convocation speaker.

A total of 18,317 graduates have registered for the convocation. Among them, some 11,877 students are to receive their graduation certificates, along side 4,829 postgraduates, 11 masters of philosophy and 6 doctorates.

Apart from them, 1,574 students of evening programmes will receive their certificates.

Meanwhile, the JnU authority has completed all the preparation to carry the convocation during a befitting and festive manner.

The academic and administrative buildings of the university are decorated during a flamboyant manner.

Most of the graduates have already collected their costumes, bags and gifts from offices of their respective departments.

Before the convocation day, the graduates clad in ceremonial gowns roamed round the campus. The graduates, dressed in formal gowns, cheered for three to four days before the day of the inauguration.

Md Hasnain, who earned his academic degree from the Islamic History and Culture Department of the university, told The Business Standard, “I are expecting receiving my certificate during a convocation ceremony. The convocation has created the prospect to satisfy with my classmates, friends, seniors and juniors. i’m eagerly waiting to ascertain them,” he said.

The JnU started awarding baccalaureate from 2009.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Mizanur Rahman said thanks to various complications the convocation couldn’t be arranged earlier.

“We’ll make it a successful convocation with the help of teachers and students.”
